I decided to go out for the night so i thought it would be a good idea to have my sound recorder going for around 3 minutes. My ac turned on a little after. I caught a few things like fire truck sirens, and some sort of ear ringing sound. Not sure where that came from but it happened. In this sample you hear a recording from inside a well sound insulated room, directly under the roof of a house. Strong rain hints the roof and produces low frequency muted sounds. In the background you hear the constant noise of the rain, coming through the window. There are also a few raindrops hitting the glass of the window. The sample was recorded using the built-in stereo microphone of a zoom h4n recorder. It was slightly processed to remove unwanted low and high frequencies which were not related to the actual recording. New york city street at night, with the microphone pointed out of the second story, street-facing windows of a new york city townhouse. Moderate, night traffic. Edited to remove mic bumps and occasional sniffling/coughing. Recorded with a zoom h4n pro on january 04, 2021 around 3am with on-board x-y mic pointed straight down at the street, and traffic coming from each left/right direction.

My mother's house is the keeper of a trend by sligh grandfather clock named bonnie. Each time i pass by it, i admire the sound. I decided to capture it. It's mostly a clean recording outside of the occasional bird chirp or atmospheric sound. Easy to clean up, edit, and loop. Enjoy!. Recorded using an oktava mk-012-01 through a focusrite scarlett 2i2 audio interface; captured at 96k 32bit float, and bounced down to 48k/24bit in pro tools on windows 11. The mic was placed about two inches away, perpendicular to the face of the clock with the dial window open. The only processing i applied was a fabfilter proq3 48db/oct low cut at 110hz to eliminate of some of the room/ac rumble.

This is from a recording session trying to create laser weapon sounds. I just used the same technique as ben burtt used in wall-e (with the slinky and the contact mic). This is unprocessed, no eqs, compression, reverb or anything was added. I used a long piece of curled up aluminum wire which i hung from a tall structure at my house and the main object i used to oscillate the wire was a drum stick. For the recording i used the blue icicle and recorded into reaper. The contact mic is my own creation from a diy i found online (roughly €5 to make). Recorded in fryers forest in country victoria, australia. I placed a my mics on the end of a jetty facing across the small "lake" towards a house where we had our new year's eve celebrations. It was a small gathering of around a dozen people, there was no countdown, in fact midnight crept up on us! in the far distance you can hear fireworks in castlemaine a small town about 15 km away. Recorded with and ms setup using a sennheiser 416 and a sennheiser mkh 30 into my zoom h4n.

I tried out some new gear and methods! more mountainside rain! a complete storm from beginning to end with swelling and then waning rainfall, occasional thunder. Ms stereo bar on mic stand projected through open second-floor window, just under the roof eaves. Recorded july 20th during one of the mid-afternoon brief intense storms we can seem to get frequently in the rocky mountain foothills beginning around june. If you were listening and wondering, the direct sound of the thunder is somewhat occluded as i believe the storm was behind the overhanging roof and house from the perspective of the microphone array. The mountainous terrain and other objects in the field reflected some of that thunderclap, as well as the exterior wall of the home, and so this is all a little bit funky. One of my brothers came by spontaneously to say hello and he slammed the door behind him hahah. It was non-aggressive of course, the door is heavy and has to be slammed in order for it to be properly closed !. Little did my bro know that i was recording and that i managed to catch the door slam !. The house was dark, empty and quiet - he wondered wtf was going on lol. It sounds a bit distant, it's because i was in the bedroom and not in the entrance. This sound is natural too, which is perfect. A nearby moo. Taken from a field recording (quite literally) i made of the cows mooing in the field next to our house in pembrokeshire, wales. Recorded tuesday 14 april 2020 (while in lockdown during the coronavirus pandemic) on a zoom q2n. Note, incidentally, that "zoom" spelt backwards is "mooz". Spooky, eh?. I hope that someone out there finds these moos to be just the thing they need. In front of my desk in my room is a wood paneled wall with a cubbie. It's about a foot wide, 10 inches from top to bottom and maybe 7 inches deep. I'm just guessing. Around this cubbie is a border of wood. In the bottom right corner under the border i have jammed one end of an elastic string that used to have glitter on it. It's from a christmas box of chocolates my uncle sent me last year. I stand in front of this cubbie whose bottom is at chin height, (i'm only 5ft1in) so my arms are above my head as i pull this string across the cubbie to the border on the left which acts as my only fret. The string is a few inches longer than the cubbie is wide, but when i pull it it gets longer so my hand is 3/4 along it's length as i pull back and forth across the border to tighten and loosen the string. No matter how hard i pull it never pops loose from it's mooring. The recording starts with me standing up from my chair. In the first part until 01:54 i am playing the string at maybe 30° from horizontal. It has a buzzy quality that reminds me of an african folk instrument i can't remember the name of. From 01:33 to 01:54 i'm trying to imitate a korean folk vibrato kind of thing. In the second part until 02:29 i am playing 45 to 60° from horizontal and it sounds like a full-bodied string bass with no buzz. In the last part beginning at 02:34 i am playing about 75° from horizontal across the top border of the cubbie on the left so it sounds buzzy and african again, and i'm just going crazy goofing around with a crazy bluesy rock sort of rhythm. There didn't seem to be any homemade 1-stringed wall-cubbie basses on this site so here is mine, have fun. I don't play it if mom is home because the living room is on the other side of the wall and she can't hear tv. Also my neighbor can probably hear it in the next apartment lol.
